Can i drain my fiberglass pool

Clean, crushed stone is the ideal material again, a key component of The River Pools Way , because it drains well and the point-on-point friction helps hold the material in place. What we're trying to avoid here is bulges developing in the side walls of the pool. Basically, we are very confident that we can safely drain a fiberglass pool with a sump pipe and stone backfill.

But regardless of sump pipe or backfill type, just don't drain the pool unless it's mandatory. What's mandatory? A necessary pool repair. It's just that simple. Big disclaimer: only authorized fiberglass pool professionals should drain a pool. Never drain a pool without professional assistance. For most if not all pool manufacturers, an authorized dealer must drain the pool, or you may void your warranty.

Check the weather first. If you get a big storm, it could flood around the outside of the pool. Inspect and remove any groundwater. This is where that sump pipe comes in handy. Brace the pool across the width of the pool.

Typically 3 braces are used 18—24 inches down the side walls of the pool. The side walls of the pool may push in from the pressure, which can cause the floor to lift. As you lower the water level, the water stays in the trash cans and provides downward pressure. Fiberglass pools need the least maintenance of all three pool types. The recommended solution from Leslie Pools to both of these issues is to drain the pool and replace with fresh water. I understand there can be alot of complications with draining a fiberglass pool, so in May, I drained off only about 18" of water to lower the CYA, but it did not help much.

I am now realizing that the sanitizer I am using is increasing CYA, any suggestions on balancing this pool? So far, not much improvement on the Ph, but I just started. Fiberglass pools can usually be safely drained to a level of about foot below the skimmer so you are really going to have to do a series of partial drains and refills to get the CYA down.

Your other option is to hire a pool company to brace the pool and drain it but that can be expensive. Unfortunately, there is no other way to lower CYA besides draining and yours is too high, period. What kind of filter did you install? If you are using a cartrdige filter then you do NOT want to use any stabilized chlorine in the future either. As far as TA goes, what is the TA of your fill water. If it is less than your current TA the water replacement will get you started on lowering it.

To lower the TA drop your pH to 7. You have just lowered your TA somewhat and also lowered your pH. To bring the pH back up you need to drive off the carbon dioxide.

Carbon dioxide in water is basically carbonic acid, think seltzer--it's the same thing. We want to make the "seltzer" in your pool go flat by driving out the carbon dioxide gas.

With a bottle of seltzer we do this by shaking up the bottle. You want to do the same with your pool by aerating the water any way you can. Connect a long garden hose to a submersible sump pump. Place the pump in the deep end of the pool. Point the other end of the hose toward your draining location.

Although you aren't draining the entire pool, you'll be removing many gallons quickly. If the hose reaches to a street sewer entry built to collect rainwater runoff, lay the hose inside the drain. If not, point it so that the water won't run into your neighbors' yards or directly onto the road.
